Course Description

Curious about product management but unsure how to break in without a specific degree or experience? This beginner-friendly course will help you explore software product management, determine if it’s right for you, and craft a personalized career plan.

We’ll answer all your questions about what it’s really like to be a PM in an industry being transformed by AI. Through an interactive case study, you’ll try out key PM responsibilities, such as defining business goals, understanding customer needs, and creating a roadmap.

Then, we’ll use real-life examples to show you how it’s possible to transition into product management from any background. You’ll learn how to translate your skills and experiences into relevant qualifications, and create a plan to address any gaps.  Finally, we will share strategies and resources to continue your development plan or start your job search.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a personalized, actionable plan for launching your product management or related career.

Note: While resume building and interview practice will be covered at a high level, this course will not focus in-depth on applying and interviewing for PM jobs.

What Students Say

As someone who worked in restaurants for the majority of my professional life but recently began working in a product/tech oriented job, the transition into product management seemed daunting. I was looking for a way to learn more about the role, and came across Lindsay's course at Stanford. After only a handful of hours in a classroom with my peers I left with a demystified understanding of PM, and the next steps I wanted to take. If you are someone wanting to get into the product management field, but are frustrated with the lack of information and context out there about the role, I cannot recommend Lindsay's courses enough.

As a PhD in engineering with no prior business experience, Lindsay's Breaking into Product Management course was an incredibly valuable investment of my time. The live format provided real-time discussions, interactive exercises, and direct feedback that I wouldn’t have gained from watching videos or reading online. The structured frameworks and insider knowledge helped me understand the PM landscape and how to position myself strategically. Lindsay’s advice on networking and connecting with recruiters played a key role in securing my AI internship and shaping my longer-term career plans.
